What is your perspective on India’s plan to boost domestic manufacturing of solar cells and modules? In the end, it will need to be a market-driven process, as government incentives and subsidies cannot remain in place for a long time. Just like how manufacturing in Thailand and Vietnam is now developing thanks to the improved cost competitiveness of their supply chains. When it is economically and financially viable with local supply chain and manufacturing, I would not be surprised if Trina Solar were attracted to make investment in India’s local supply chain or partner with local manufacturers to develop the local manufacturing that could meet the market requirements. One of the reasons that India’s solar projects still import for the time being is to make projects financially viable and attractive for investors. For India, the real export value is gained by becoming part of the global supply for products. But I would like to point out that product final assembly only represents a small fraction of a product’s total value. When you refer to manufacturing in India, you are referring to final assembly. What are your plans in terms of domestic manufacturing plants in India? Are you also looking at mergers and acquisitions? Based on domestic market situations, we will allocate our module capacity and bring in more innovative solar PV products and solutions to meet customers’ needs. Trina Solar always positively promotes the growth of clean energy in India and globally through technological innovation.

The country has a target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, which represents a huge increase in solar energy capacity.

Trina Solar is a very well-known and established brand in India, so our outlook for the coming years is very positive. India recognizes the value of clean, stable, and cost-effective solar energy. What is your India outlook for the coming years? How much module capacity are you targeting in the next five years? We have been operating in India since 2010 and have shipped more than 8 GW of modules to India since then. India is Trina Solar’s largest market in the Asia-Pacific region after China. How big is India as a market for your company? How much share does India take in your company’s revenue pie?
